What is the German Fairness-Award?
The German Fairness-Award is a consumer award. It recognises companies across 75 sectors that treat their customers with particular fairness. It is presented by the German Institute for Service Quality (DISQ) and the news channel ntv. In 2026, over 64,000 customer opinions were gathered via an online panel as part of a consumer survey designed to be representative of the general population, and the providers were assessed.
Participating consumers assess how fairly they feel they are treated by the companies. Specifically, they assess the value for money, how transparent the providers’ information is regarding product features, contractual services and prices, the extent to which they can rely on the company, and whether they would recommend the company to others.
An award that validates and motivates
We are delighted to receive this award, which stems directly from our users’ experiences. It shows us that, for them, data protection and fairness go hand in hand, because with mailbox they pay fair prices – and not with their data: no adverts, no tracking, no data trading. Furthermore, the willingness of our users to recommend mailbox to others is the greatest compliment we could receive.
