Open letter to Apple against the surveillance of users

It is with great concern that we at mailbox.org observe the plans published by Apple to use a surveillance algorithm for images in Messenger and the iCloud. While the motives – fighting child pornography – are right and also very important, the planned tool is extremely dangerous. We fear that this AI tool – once in use – can be used to monitor citizen, journalists and critics.

For us, safe, free and unmonitored communication is a matter of the heart and that is why we have signed the open letter of the Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT). Together with 90 other organisations, we demand that Apple refrain from using the surveillance algorithm.
