Delays in accessing our services this week

Dear mailbox.org users,

Our admin team has had a tough week, battling to keep systems accessible, and some of you may have noticed delays in accessing our services. Especially at peak times in the morning between 9-10am CET and then again around noon, we experienced extreme levels of load on the mailbox.org systems. This may have affected logins, which would have been sluggish or even failing at times. Of course, we are rather unhappy about this course of events and would like to sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Part of the increase in load came from the news that mailbox.org won a prestigious german product test and as a result, we had to bring forward an already planned extension of load capacity to this week.

The good news is: The new, scaled-up systems have been operational and running since Thursday 4pm CET. Load-balancing seems to be working fine, with all systems at normal levels presently.

While customers were experiencing problems yesterday, we used the forum and the red information banners on our homepage to keep everyone up-to-date about the current state of affairs. In order to improve communication in such situations in the future, we are going to create a dedicated status web page which will go online within the next few days. On this page, all users will be able to inspect the operational status of our services and get more information about current maintenance works. We are also striving to keep customers better-informed in advance about all planned maintenance on our systems that might affect the availability of services.

We hope the new infrastructure installed this week will calm things down and fully restore reliability of services to the level expected by our customers.

With best wishes,
Peer Heinlein & the team at mailbox.org
